Aesthetic Clinic Marketing
Marketing for aesthetic clinics, built around what you are allowed to publish.
The short answer
Malaysian aesthetic clinics cannot advertise the way overseas clinics do. Before and after imagery is prohibited, outcome claims are restricted, and advertising a healthcare service requires Medicine Advertisements Board approval held by the clinic. That removes most of what agencies lead with — so what is left is the work itself: your space, your practitioners, your process, and education patients actually search for. That is production, and production is what we do. We currently run content, websites and ads for two licensed clinics in Selangor, in Malay and in Chinese.

What can a Malaysian aesthetic clinic legally advertise?
Broadly: what the treatment is, what it involves, who performs it, where, and what it costs where that has been approved. Not: before and after imagery, guaranteed outcomes, superlatives such as safest or painless, or treatment claims for the conditions listed in the Medicines (Advertisement and Sale) Act 1956 schedule. Advertising of healthcare facilities and services requires Medicine Advertisements Board approval, and that approval is held by the clinic — an agency does not obtain it for you. We build creative designed to sit inside what you have approved.
What is off the table, and what we build instead
| Not permitted | What we build | |
|---|---|---|
| Visual proof | Before and after imagery (MAB policy 2/2019) | The room, the equipment, the practitioner at work |
| Patient voice | Testimonial framed as an outcome claim | The experience of the visit — process, not promises |
| Language of results | Painless, safest, guaranteed | What the treatment is, what it involves, who performs it |
| Listed conditions | Treatment claims under the MASA 1956 schedule | Education on the concerns you actually treat |
| Pressure | Countdown urgency on a medical decision | Consult first, then a treatment plan |

Questions clinic owners ask
- Can we use before and after photos?
- No. Medicine Advertisements Board policy 2/2019 prohibits before and after imagery in advertising, and it applies whether or not the patient consented. Consent covers a person's appearance; it does not override the advertising rules.
- Do we need approval for our website?
- Advertising of healthcare facilities and services requires Medicine Advertisements Board approval, and the approval is held by the clinic, not by us. We build creative designed to sit inside what you have already had approved. We do not obtain approvals on your behalf.
- Can patients appear in our content?
- Yes, with their written consent, and provided the content makes no outcome claim and shows no before and after. Those are two separate requirements and you need both.
- Do you work in Malay and Chinese?
- Yes. We currently run one clinic in Malay and one in Chinese, each written for its own catchment rather than translated across.
- We already have creative running. Can you review it?
- Yes, and we would want to before shooting anything new. On our current engagements that review has flagged live items worth changing.
- Do you guarantee bookings?
- No. Nobody honestly can, and a guarantee is exactly the kind of claim that causes problems in this category.
Start with a look at what you are running.
We will review your current creative against what is actually allowed, and tell you what we would change.
